Throughout the band's long history, pipers and drummers have always excelled in other musical spheres.

Piper Brian Lee and drummer Jack McLeish accompanied the dancers on the piano at St. John's in the fifties. Piper Gerard Traynor accompanied the dancers on the tin whistle in the seventies, and could also be persuaded to sit down at the piano to entertain the assembled company. Drummer Sean O'Hara is also an accomplished accordionist and, formerly, drummer with Finian's Rainbow, while drummer Chris Flynn and piper Carl O'Connor were members of rock bands, the former with SFW and the latter with They Must Be Russians. Piper/drummer Colin Seymour's alter ego, Big Vern, is the drummer of Blue Swamp, a blues band featuring Bowden and Williamson.

On this video, we see pipers Barry Doohan (guitar and vocals) and Mike Kane (flute), alongside drummers Brendan (guitar and vocals) and John Fitzmaurice (bodhran). What a talented bunch they are!
